Monique Galvão is quickly establishing herself as an up and coming leading mezzo-soprano. She has been praised for her "stunning vocalism” and "fearless acting" by Voce de Meche and fascinating dark color" by Parterre Box.
Her 2025–2026 season features Concepción in L’heure espagnole by Ravel with Bel Cantanti Opera, her debut as the Page of Herodias in Salome by Richard Strauss at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, and appearances with the St Hugh Concert Series in selections from Carmen, performing alongside Arturo Chacón-Cruz.
Highlights of the 2024-2025 season included performances with Florida Grand Opera as Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and well as her international debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, Brazil.
Last season, Monique debuted as Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti's Anna Bolena and also performed the role of Bianca in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with the Academy of Vocal Arts. Additionally Ms. Galvão performed in concert with guest artists Nadine Sierra and SeokJong Baek with Classic Lyric Arts in New York City as well as in concert with Opera Philadelphia “Festival O” performing excerpts as the Componist in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos.
Highlights of 2023-2024 season include her role debut as Carmen in Peter Brook's La Tragédie de Carmen with Chautauqua Opera Company as well as concert performances with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. In 2022-2023 she performed her debut of the traditional staging of Bizet’s Carmen at the Miami Music Festival.
Monique was a Career Grant recipient of the 2024 Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition, a finalist in the James Toland Vocal Arts Elizabeth Greenfield Competition, and the second prize winner of the Linus Lerner International Singing Competition.
Past performances at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts include Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Flora in Verdi’s La Traviata, and the title role in Thomas’s Mignon. Concert performances include the second soprano solo in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor.
Monique is a graduate of Florida International University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance. As a scholarship recipient at Miami Dade College, she earned her A.A. in Fine Arts and Fine Arts Education, with a focus on fashion design.
During her studies, Monique was discovered by the head of the music program, a pivotal moment that led her to merge her visual artistry with formal training in acting, movement, and performance. Her work there included musical theater and operetta roles such as Katisha in The Mikado, Aunt March and Mrs. Kirk in Little Women, Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress, and operatic roles such as Adalgisa, Orfeo, Cherubino, and the Second Lady in various performances.
Born in Brazil, Monique embraced her passion for the arts as a classically trained dancer with principal and soloist dancers of Rio de Janeiro’s renowned Teatro Municipal.
She later lived in Paris, France where she continued her dance training and was first introduced to classical music. In Miami, she pursued classical singing, earning awards from the Florida Federation of Music Clubs and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Monique also holds a French Baccalaureate in Literature with Honors and has worked as a French instructor.
Today, alongside her singing career, Monique offers artistic consultations for fellow performers. Drawing from her multilingual background, she specializes in diction coaching and translation in Portuguese and French. From her fine arts foundation, she also develops singers’ social media branding and digital presence, shaping a cohesive visual and artistic identity across platforms.
